Manchester's Student Housing Revolution: £286 Million Project Unveiled!
A groundbreaking student accommodation project is coming to Manchester, and it's set to transform the city's skyline and student living experience. With a staggering £286 million investment, this venture aims to provide a whopping 2,300 new bedrooms for students, addressing the growing demand for quality housing.
But here's the twist: This isn't just about building more rooms. The project, a collaboration between the University and Unite Students, involves demolishing outdated 1990s accommodation and replacing it with two modern, towering structures. These buildings will soar up to 30 storeys, offering a blend of cluster apartments and studios, along with ample communal spaces.
And that's not all. The development also prioritizes sustainability and community engagement. A key feature is the incorporation of ground-floor commercial spaces and a community health center, fostering stronger connections between the campus and the local area.
Architecturally, the design by Cartwright Pickard is set to impress. The buildings will be energy-efficient, boasting a range of eco-friendly technologies such as air-source heat pumps, photovoltaic panels, and advanced ventilation systems. These innovations will significantly reduce carbon emissions, aiming for a BREEAM 'Excellent' rating.
With construction set to begin this year, the project is scheduled in two phases. Phase one will be completed in 2029, followed by phase two in 2030, according to Graham's regional director, Stephen Van den Hoek.
