To celebrate the 10th Edition of the World Week of Italian Cuisine, the consulate pulled out all the stops, inviting renowned Italian Chef Vincenzo De Liso to Habitt City.

This exclusive event was a gathering of culinary luminaries, passionate food lovers, and industry professionals from the HORECA sector. They were treated to a deep dive into Italy's celebrated culinary traditions. Chef De Liso himself led a live demonstration, focusing on the delightful world of "Gelato and Coffee." This wasn't just about making treats; it was a showcase of the artisanal gelato industry and its dedication to preserving Italian food heritage.

The masterclass wasn't just about delicious flavors; it was also about inspiration. Chef De Liso aimed to ignite the passion of young people, providing them with a deeper understanding of Italian gastronomy and opening doors to professional opportunities in this growing sector.

Partnering with the local company, Blue Mountain Trading, the session explored the art of Italian gelato making. Attendees discovered the fascinating differences between gelato and traditional ice cream. They were also given the opportunity to taste unique gelato flavors, creating an unforgettable culinary experience.

The carefully crafted menu started with the authentic Italian Affogato, using premium Caffè Carraro, followed by a selection of freshly made gelato, courtesy of MEC3. Guests enjoyed a variety of artisanal gelato, including the exquisite Gianduia Gelato, a specialty from the Piemonte region. The experience ended with Pasta Nocciola Gelato, a smooth and creamy blend of roasted hazelnuts, which is a classic Italian treat.

But here's where it gets interesting... Italy's coffee industry is a major player, acting as a cornerstone of the nation's agro-food exports. Italian coffee production accounts for a quarter of all roasted coffee in Europe. Valued at over €2.5 billion, it's the third-largest export sector in Italy's agro-food industry, with strong demand in Europe and the US. Pakistan is seen as a promising market for Italian coffee, where Italian expertise could significantly contribute to the growth, quality, and sustainability of the emerging coffee sector.
