A high-rise fire in Atlantic City left an officer injured, highlighting the dangers first responders face.

On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, around 5 a.m., a multi-alarm fire erupted at the Brighton Towers, a residential high-rise located on the 2800 block of Atlantic Avenue in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Firefighters from the Jersey shore were immediately called to the scene to combat the blaze.

Flames and thick smoke were visible, originating from the eighth floor and rapidly spreading upwards to the tenth floor. The situation was dire enough to warrant a complete evacuation of the building. Some residents found themselves trapped, requiring rescue from their balconies.

During the rescue efforts, an Atlantic City police officer sustained injuries and was promptly transported to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. Crews from neighboring towns, including Margate and Northfield, also provided assistance. Firefighters continued to work at the scene to contain and extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
